Clarke told the Irish Sunday Mirror: “He is still in hospital but he is doing well and being looked after. I didn’t want to worry people. He is out of the ICU and doing well.”
It’s understood the singer-songwriter has been treated in a Dublin hospital since late June. Clarke did not address the reason for his hospital admission.
Clarke hinted at the latest health scare in an Instagram post last month. She said: “There has been a lot of turbulence in my life recently and it’s been very emotional and also scary.
“But this past few days I have noticed that even though there’s a LOT of fear there is also a huge amount of love and support and incredible blessings. I think that our minds can be VERY resistant to change and to having our lives shaken up and rearranged and we need to be very gentle and patient with ourselves…
“It’s a challenge to stay present with your feelings. Thank you to everyone who has been supporting me and @shanemacgowanofficial.”
McGowan was hospitalised over Christmas and the New Year with rare brain condition encephalitis.
The life-threatening condition causes the brain to swell and could lead to difficulty with speech and loss of movement, with the singer receiving urgent treatment at the time.
The Pogues singer was recently in the news when he was paid a visit by Bruce Springsteen when the latter’s tour reached Ireland. “What an amazing honour and a beautiful experience to get a visit from The Boss!” wrote Clarke on Twitter, tagging both Springsteen and MacGowan. Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius!” she added.
