Def Leppard Announce Online Collection Of Band Artifacts: “Def Leppard Vault”
Def Leppard have revealed the “Def Leppard Vault”, an online collection of artifacts spanning the entirety of the band’s illustrious career.
The collection, which is being housed in a digital museum, will allow fans to see items, rarities and experience stories of the band, curated by Def Leppard themselves.
Taking to YouTube to announce the Def Leppard Vault, the band announced that the vault would be “unlocked” on 13th January 2021. Speaking about the decision in the video, they said: “The world’s shut down at the moment it was the perfect time to reflect, raid our closets; basements and actually do a collection of artifacts we’d lost or found.”
The collection covers the band’s origin in 1977 right up to the present day, and Def Leppard – Joe Elliott, Rick Savage, Phil Collen, Rick Allen and Vivian Campbell – provide insights into the various items, which they curated themselves.
Def Leppard first teased the Vault in October, with a twenty second video showing a vault being unlocked while various songs from the band’s catalogue played. They stated that the Vault would “serve as a constantly curated museum, including special installations where fans can gather to see the band’s history from 1977 to now.” The Vault is also the name of their first greatest hits album, which celebrated its 25th anniversary the same month.
The move may not come as a huge surprise for fans, who have always been treated to glimpses of gems from the band’s substantial personal vault of items on the band’s website. When the band celebrated “Def Leppard Day” on their website, which occurs every 5th October, after they were given the key to their home city, Sheffield, and a plaque commemorating the event in 1995, Def Leppard shared photos of the plaque, the day’s events and a vintage T-shirt from 1977. Similarly, to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of their album Hysteria in 2020, the band ran a memorabilia contest, asking fans to share any photos of items in their collection, to be in with a chance of winning an artifact from the band’s own vault of items.
Fans can sign up on the Def Leppard website to unlock the vault on the 13th January 2021.
